Nathan, a twelve year old lives
on Pea Island, a small place where only surf men live to rescue ships that
run aground. Nathan lives with his dad, grandfather ,and the surf men.
The Emma C. Cotton runs aground and Nathan finds the white men and the
black surf men eating at the same table. Nathan soon wants to become a
surf man but his dad won't allow it.
