Introduction:

         A girl named Minnie tries to keep her family together during Christmas time during the Great Depression. As Minnie faces a lot of hardships she still has a hard time finding the true meaning of Christmas and where her familyÕs hope went.

Summary:

            A girl named Minnie is dealing with a lot of hard times, and is having a hard time dealing with them. Minnie lives in Indianapolis, Indiana. She lives with her parents and her brothers and sisters; Minnie is the youngest out of all of them.

         Minnie is having an alright time with the depression going on but to make it worse their family got a telegram saying that their aunt and uncle passed away and that their cousin, Willie Faye, would be living with them. Willie Faye is the same age as Minnie, twelve years old, and was going to attend the same school as her but since Willie Faye hadnÕt learned as much as Minnie back in Texas Willie was put in fourth grade. Minnie felt badly for Willie that she couldnÕt be in the same grade as her but Willie Faye said it was fine.

         Minnie, Willie Faye, and the rest of the family struggle through a lot of hard times. Also most of the family thinks that there will be no Christmas, but Minnie knows that there will be a Christmas this year.

Setting and Characters:

         Setting:

This story takes place in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1930 during the Great Depression. This story is during the season of fall and winter, between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The story takes place at the SwiftÕs house.

Characters:

o     Minnie is a girl who is facing a lot of hard times during the Great Depression, as Minnie struggles through these hard times she still tries to keep her family with Christmas spirit and to have faith that there will be Christmas.

o     Ozzie is Minnie's brother and is like one of her best friends. Ozzie and Minnie pretty much do everything together.

o     Lady is Minnie's sister and is the girlie type of sister in the family. Lady is the one in the family that wants to become of famous movie star.

o     Willie Faye is Minnie's cousin and is the same age as her. She is also having a difficult time adjusting because her parents just passed away and is now living with her cousins.

About the Author:

         Kathryn Lasky was born in the suburbs of Indianapolis, Indiana. She attended University of Michigan and was an English major. She loved Victorian literature, romantic poetry, Renaissance literature and many other kinds of literature. Her first job was writing for a fashion magazine and her second job was teaching school. Kathryn had then gotten married and two children, one named Max who now works in New York City and the other named Meribah who attends New York University. Kathryn Lasky now lives in a big house in Cambridge.

Book Review:

    The book "Christmas After All" was a very sad, exciting, and very interesting book. This book makes you feel lucky to have a family with you, because in this book this family loses some family members that are very important in life. So always be lucky to have a family with you. This book gives you the joy of Christmas.

I would give this ten out of ten stars.
