Introduction

A young boy named Young-sup has just discovered that he has incredible skills at flying a kite. His brother is a kite maker and is incredibly gifted. One day the King wants them to make a kite. Will they finish on time? What will happen next? In order to find out read the book ÒKite Fighters.Ó

 

Summary

This story is about two young brothers named Young-sup and Kee-sup and they both love to fly kites. They both made their own because the other one was getting old. One day when they were flying their kites the King came to see them. The King was about the same age because his father died of a disease so now he is king. The King wanted them to make a kite as beautiful wonderful as theirs. They worked hard on the KingÕs kite. One day while Young-sup was flying his kite alone the King came to visit him. On that hill they became very good friends. Soon after that the brothers went to see the King. The king loved his new kite but he didnÕt know how to fly it so he wanted Young Ðsup to fly in the tournament for him.  In the tournament Young-sup fought many kite fighters, but in the end he wins. The brothers are rewarded and everyone lives happily ever after.

 

Setting

The setting is Seoul, Korea 1473. It was a time when there was no technology.

Character

Young-sup

He is the little brother of Kee-sup and is very energetic. He is an expert kite flyer that knows exactly what his kite wants.

 

Kee-sup

An expert kite maker, but doesnÕt fly a kite very well. He had just been made a man that year and now Young-sup has to give him respect.

 

The King

A friend of the brothers and helps them win in the tournament. He is the king because his father died of a disease.

 

About the Author

The author is Linda Sue Park. She is already a professional writer for adults and children as well as poetry. Linda Sue Park lives in Rochester, NY, with her family. She again, found her Korean heritage in studying her first stories for younger readers. Book Review

I think this was a good book because it had competition and suspense. If you like suspense you should read this book. Example: ÒThe King came to the brothers. This was very unusual.Ó You will also learn things about Korea in the book. You would learn some of their culture. That is why I think this is a great book.
