St. Brendan Parish School

Mrs. Baran's Classroom Page

Hello, my name is Mrs. Baran, your new dance teacher!
I feel honored and blessed to be a part of the St. Brendan community and wanted to share a little about myself. I was born in San Francisco, raised in South San Francisco and fell in love with dance (specifically tap dance) at age four, the moment my Grandma taught me a “time step” on her kitchen floor.

My formal training includes:
Schumacher’s School of Dance, Notre Dame De Namur University’s School of Theater and San Jose State University’s School of Music & Dance. I've received training in advanced tap, jazz, contemporary, musical theater and acting, with an occasional hip hop, social dance and ballet class on the side. Additionally, I've earned a bachelor's degree in Public Relations and a master's degree in Pastoral Ministries, which makes me one incredibly personable dance teacher!

I believe you never stop learning/dancing.
Currently, I study tap improvisation under the direction of tap master, Sam Weber, and recently got my certification in babywearing dance fitness with Joimove International. I've also taken workshops with world renowned tap dancers: Jason Samuels Smith, Ivery Wheeler, Andrew Prashad (Monsoon Wedding), Victoria Jones (Las Vegas Tap Festival), Bruce Biada, Anthony LoCascio (Tap Dogs) and Joan Walton.

I'm passionate about showmanship.
I have performed in theatrical works such as A Christmas Carol, Grease, Gypsy, Wild Honey, and The Skin of Our Teeth. Additionally, I've performed with Shrungaar of Northern California, an award-winning traditional Indian folk dance company and recently, won the “Air Guitar Challenge” on KOFYTV20’s  Dance Party.

Teaching Philosophy
To bring out the authentic entertainer and star power within every dancer, my dance philosophy and instruction focuses on infusing dance technique with stage presence, and putting the "FUN" in fundamental dance terminology.
