Minimum Requirements for St. Brendan Kindergarten

The applicant must be able to:

• Sing / say the alphabet correctly (all 26 letters and l,m,n,o,p are five distinct letters)
• Recognize and name all 26 uppercase letters of the alphabet when seen in print and not in alphabetical order
• Count accurately from 1-20
• Recognize numbers 1-10 when seen in print and not in numerical order
• Count up to ten objects accurately
• Spell his or her name
• Print his or her first name with good control
• Cut easily with scissors
• Identify all colors
• Identify simple shapes such as circle, square, triangle, and diamond
• State personal information such as age, place in family, birthday, phone number, address
• Match one object with another
• Identify words which sound the same and words which do not
• Identify simple rhymes (e.g., cat-hat, wig-pig)
• Listen to and follow simple two-step directions
